Silver Gate Scout Conservation Project 2004

Back to MDSC

Where:  Benicia State Park Recreation Area
When:  May 15th, 2004, 8 a.m. till we're done
Who:  The entire Silver Gate District - Cubs, Webelos, Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts. We have also invited the Girl Scouts to come on out and play with us!  Bring your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and drag your neighborhood to this event as well - let's make it a party!
Why:  Well Duh!  It's a Scouting thing to do!  It's Community service and Citizenship project, a good neighbor project - simply, its a 'good thing'.
What:  We need you all to bring work gloves (hate those blisters!), shovels, rakes, wheel barrows, gas powered weed whackers, etc....

Click here for the Conservation Good Turn Certificate Application and  Local Tour Permit
I need you all to fill these forms out.  In addition, the State of California will require parental permission for anyone under the age of 18 participating (yes, new rules for volunteers - chalk it up to budgets and liabilities...). These forms will be distributed to all Units upon receipt at a later date. Although the State Park system charges for parking normally, we are also arranging for free parking passes to be issued for those working this
community conservation service project.
State Park Camp Out:
We have gained permission to camp out at Dillon Point again this year following the Conservation Project  This is a very unique opportunity to camp out at within Benicia State Park on Saturday night.  The opportunity is
not allowed to many.  Because of the limitations of the Park, we have been asked to identify our group size for this one night camp out.  The camp out is restricted to registered Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Ventures, Sea Scouts
and Webelos, along with their adult advisors, invited parents and guardians. Sorry, Cub Scouts and siblings are not invited to this older scout camp out. Each unit staying the night MUST follow BSA guidelines for dual adult leader
attendance.  Your Unit must also apply for and have on file a BSA local tour permit for short term camp.  Webelos Scouts will only be allowed to stay the night with their parent(s) and or guardian.  A one to one parent to Webelos
scout ratio is required.

We are further attempting to arrange for dinner and breakfast for this camp out.  But we anticipate to have food limitations.  We need you to identify how many people your unit is expecting to attend this camp out.
As you can see we have attempted to make this Scouting activity as easy as possible for you and your unit.  I really encourage you and your units leadership to plan for and participate in this years Scout District
Conservation Project and Camp Out.  Please mark your activity calendars and drop me, Dave Thackrey or Ken Lambert a line of your Unit's anticipated headcount so final arrangements can be made for food and
camping arrangements.  There's more information to come, but we hope we'll see all of you there.
